15 Sep Booming Boca: Growth in Midtown continues as new businesses set to open
The growth in the Midtown area of Boca Raton continues as several new restaurants are close to opening and construction of several buildings is in full swing.
The construction site for Midtown Place off of Military Trail is currently gated off, with construction set to be complete during the final quarter of next year.
The “glamorous” steak house, Meat Market, is set to open on NW 19th Street on Oct 5. Managers are still looking to hire dozens more workers ahead of the restaurant’s opening.
The general manager, Yianni Theodore of Meat Market, says the talent pool of potential employees has improved in the last couple years.
“People who are coming back into the hospitality industry, they are passionate, they want to be in the hospitality industry,” Theodore said.
He also says the business is extremely grateful to be able to open a new location in Midtown Boca, which stretches from Palmetto Park Road north to Yamato Road and I-95 west to Saint Andrews Boulevard.
“We love what’s happening in Midtown Boca, there is an economic boom, there is a resurgence, there are families coming down from all over the country and we are very excited,” Theodore said.
Meat Market sits next to the Renaissance Boca Raton Hotel, which is mostly done with its full interior and exterior renovation, to help accommodate the influx of people to Boca Raton.
“We are actually thrilled to be part of this new Midtown Boca Raton boom,” said Carlos Valladeres, the general manager of the Renaissance Boca Raton Hotel.
“This is an exciting project that has been in the making for quite some time. We’re finally almost there. We are looking forward for what’s to come,” Valladeres said.
The hotel renovations, which include improvements to guest rooms, the lobby, lounge, fitness center and elevators, also include a new resort-style pool, waterfall backdrop, cabanas and a tiki bar.
The restaurant El Camino, which is set to open in December off of Military Trail at “Restaurant Row,” is looking to hire more than 200 employees ahead of its opening.
The mayor of Boca Raton, Scott Singer, commented on the growth in Midtown Boca to WPBF 25 News.
“I think it’s been steady, measured growth that we’ve had over the years, I think we’re seeing a little more interest and a revitalization of taking down what was a formerly dilapidated gym and then a bar and turning it into Class A office and that is something most cities would be eager to have and we’re excited that people want to see new investments for retail, cultural, shopping, living and working environments, because Boca Raton remains an outstanding place to have all of those things happen,” Singer said.
He also says the council will work to determine a possible opportunity for affordable housing in the area.
